Carl Frederick was born in Krusenberg, Alsike, Stockholm, Sweden. A son of Johan Erick Jansson (1811-1873) & Maria Margreta Henriksson Jansson (1812-1888).
Carl married twice. 1st to Sophia Christina Holmbom on November 2, 1870 ~ Vallby Habo, Tibble Parish, Uppsala, Sweden. Together they raised a family of six children. After the death of Sophia he married Clara Sophia Schader on August 23, 1905 ~ Salt Lake City, Utah. Clara had a daughter Kjerstine Olivia previously who Carl adopted. Carl went by the surname Jansson until he became a solider in the Swedish army. There so many of the men had the same surname that it was frustrating. So Carl changed his surname to Krantz ~ the name of the home he and his wife and family were then living. Krantz means wreath. Some of Carl's descendants make wreath cookies at Christmas time to celebrate their family heritage.
