He was born in Gas City, Indiana to the late Harold E. and Edna M. (Walters) Barton. He married Deborah Moriarity on February 21, 1991. She survives.
Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Mississinewa High School. He was a business entrepreneur owning Barton's Gulf Service, Barton Auto Repair, Barton Auto Parts and Barton Auto Sales. He had a passion for car shows. Over the years, he spent a lot of time attending swap meets. He restored several classic cars but his favorite model was the 1962 Corvette. His most treasured times were spending time with his family. He loved his hometown of Gas City, IN, the Ducktail Run and especially enjoyed his morning McDonalds group. Jerry was associated with Wandering Wheels and was also active at Union Chapel Baptist Church and attended New Hope Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling to California and Las Vegas
