WILLIAM E. AHLSWEDE

William E. Ahlswede, age 86, of 5328 Wagon Wheel Road, Manitowoc, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.

William was born Feb. 28, 1922, in the town of Kossuth, son of the late Benjaminand Rose Rohrbach Ahlswede.

William was educated in Manitowoc, and graduated with the class of 1939 from Lincoln High School.

On June 5, 1948, William married the former Pearl Kreimann in Manitowoc.

He farmed on the family farm his entire life and also worked for 20 years at Mirro Aluminum Company until his retirement in 1984. William was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and now Trinity Alliance Church where he held many leadership positions. He was also a member of the Rockwood Fire Department, and the Rockwood, Francis Creek Seniors.

William enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, riding his motorcycle, and driving his 1928 model A Ford Donkey Tractor in the local parades and farm shows. William and his wife enjoyed bowling together for the past 20 years in the Senior Bowling League.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Pearl Ahlswede, Manitowoc; five children: Sharyn Ahlswede, Cedarburg; Marilyn Ahlswede and her special friend Greg Dryja, Suamico; Gerald (Mary) Ahlswede, Manitowoc; Roger (Kelly) Ahlswede, Manitowoc; Sarah (Ray) Chase, Two Rivers; seven grandchildren: Jacob (Melissa) Ahlswede, Two Rivers; Tyler Ahlswede, Manitowoc; Rachel Ahlswede and her fiance, Brian Miller, Howard; Michael Ahlswede and his special friend Kassie Schultz, Two Rivers; Cheryl Ahlswede and her special friend Travis VanAbel, Manitowoc; Kelly and Kyle Novack,Two Rivers; four-great grandchildren: Dru James and Alexa Ahlswede, Two Rivers; Kaeden Lewis, Howard; two brothers-in-law and four sister-in law: Arlene Ahlswede, Manitowoc; Gladwin (Jackie) Kreimann, Georgia; Shirley (David) Boyes, Canada; Caroline Sapsford, Flordia; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

William was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Herbert Ahlswede; one brother-in-law, Leslie Sapsford.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Trinity Alliance Church, 3121 Nagle Ave., Manitowoc. The Rev. Tom Gonzalez will officiate. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Manitowoc.

Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Alliance Church.

The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Manitowoc, is assisting the Ahlswede family with funeral arrangements.

The Ahlswede Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Aurora Medical Center for all the special care that was given to William.
