Dennis "Catfish" Calvin Brock, Jr., 62, died peacefully at home on November 5, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Brock who passed away on December 29. 2009.

He is survived by a daughter, Christy Rigney of Jacksonville, FL; a son, David Brock of Memphis, TN as well as three sisters, Ellen Cromer and Rachel Pless of Elberton, GA and Kathy Roberts of Orlando, FL. Two of his sisters, Janet Barnes and Margie Gillis, are already in Heaven and are no doubt rejoicing at his recent arrival. He will also be missed by his 4 grandchildren as well as the rest of his large extended family and many, many friends.

He served his country via the US Air Force for 24 years before retiring with them and moving to Tennessee with his family. Both he and his wife volunteered with multiple local charities and organizations. He was recently presented with a Founders Award for his work with the Memphis In May International Festival, which he was very passionately involved with. His other great passion was fishing, no matter what body of water was nearby or what the catch might be.

When he realized the end was nearing he made the decision to donate his body to the Genesis Program, a medical research center, so that he could make a difference even after he was gone.

A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at New Church Memphis for those who would like to join his family in paying tribute to a remarkable man.

The family will receive visitors at the Brock family home after the church services in Memphis for those who would like pay their respects at that time.

Also, a graveside service will be held in Crossroads, SC in a few weeks to place a headstone for him and his wife in the family plot per his request.

The headstone for him is in
Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery
