SAN ANGELO — Roger Dale Pennington , 64, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, in a local care center. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.
Survivors include his daughter, Kim Zentner; sons, Shawn Pennington and Michael Pennington; and sister, Karon Sikes.

Roger was born Aug. 15, 1949, in Tahoka, Texas, to Bobby and Betty Pennington. Roger was a humble man and enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of hunting and fishing or just being outdoors. Roger loved his family more than anything in this world. He was very close with his loving sisters, Karon and Kellie. The three of them were inseparable. They were always there for each other no matter the circumstances. Later in life he met his best friend, who also turned into his brother-in-law, TOMMY SIKES. Until his final day, the two would constantly joke and prank each other whether it be in hunting camp or sitting around the kitchen table.
He was welcomed into the world of fatherhood on Aug. 25, 1969, with the birth of his oldest son, Shawn. He loved everything about Shawn, whether it was talking about rodeo, hunting, fishing or just shooting the breeze. His proudest moment of Shawn was when he won his first roping. Roger always said, "Shawn will be great at anything he does." The love and bond they shared was like no other. He was proud of everything Shawn did until his last day. On Dec. 11, 1970, his beautiful daughter, Kimberly, was born. In his eyes she could do no wrong. She was the most perfect thing that he had ever laid eyes on. He was proud of her in all that she accomplished from gymnastics to modeling. She was also tougher than any boy around but always his little girl. He loved the idea of taking Kim hunting, but the reality was that he was always telling her to stop popping her gum or that she was being too loud and scaring all of the deer off. On Nov. 12, 1980, his son, Michael, was born. From football, baseball, hunting or fishing to stock shows, he was always there sharing and teaching him how to be a man. He was always at the games cheering and pushing him to be his best. He also had time for the simple things like just sharing a story about the outdoors. On Nov. 23, 1981, his youngest son, Christopher, was born. Roger and Christopher shared a love for fishing and enjoyed a variety of movies. To this day, Christopher continues his love of fishing or watching movies to relax. Roger will always cherish the times that he and Christopher shared. His children and family meant the world to him but this was never more apparent until he became a grandfather. He loved all of them more than life would allow. He was always eager to hear about all of their achievements. His only regret was not being able to spend more time with each of them. His love for his grandchildren will be passed onto them throughout their lives. Haley girl and Jaydon, thank you for being his guardian angels as he now becomes yours.
As a child, Roger grew up with the love of the outdoors, football, baseball and rodeo. Roger had a great passion for bull riding and saddle bronc riding. He competed many times throughout his teenage years and early twenties.
Roger was a police officer for over 17 years for the City of San Angelo, four of which he was with the motorcycle unit. He truly loved everything about being an officer.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Betty Pennington; as well as his younger sister, Kellie Asebedo. He is survived by one sister, Karon Sikes and husband Tommy of San Angelo; one daughter, Kimberly Zentner and husband Johnny of Christoval; three sons, Shawn and wife Sissy of Stephenville, Michael Pennington of Fort Worth and Christopher Pennington and wife Amber of San Angelo; four wonderful grandchildren, Hayden, Haley, Bree and Spring; three nephews, Lane, Jason and Adam; and two nieces, Melissa and Amber. He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.
