McDermott, Richard F. Sr. HALFMOON Richard F. McDermott Sr., 81, of Old Loudon Road, died on Friday, January 18, 2013 at his residence. He was born on September 24, 1931 in West Wyoming, Pa., and was the son of the late Dennis F. and Rose (Phillips) McDermott. Richard was a machine operator at Norton Co. in Watervliet for 34 years until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church and he enjoyed playing golf with his friend Frank and Fr. Tuttle, who was at St. Clement's Church in Saratoga. Richard loved to ride his bike and walk throughout the Saratoga State Park. He was the devoted best friend of Kathleen McDermott; devoted father of Richard F. McDermott Jr., Dennis A. McDermott, Elizabeth R. McDermott, Patricia V. (Richard) Hoyt, Sherry A. (Peter) Swantko and Pamela J. McDermott; caring brother of Rosemarie (the late Nicholas) Viggiani, the late Margaret Wager, and the late Linda Bacon. Ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, Clifton Park Center Road. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205. Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 Clifton Park.
