William M. Benton, 83, a retired farmer, died yesterday morning in a local hospital. He resided at 1834 42nd St. S.
Born in Florence, S C., Mr. Benton was a veteran of the Spanish American War and a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Price, Mrs. L. C. Deal and Mrs. 0. P. Ropp, all of St. Petersburg and Mrs. J. H. Stone, Spring Valley, Calif.; a brother, Raleigh Benton, Coward. S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. T. E. Matthews, Florence, and Mrs. L. Poston. Charleston, S.C., and 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
C. James Mathews Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
