Taken from the Steubenville Herald Star, April 27, 1939, Mrs. Mary Viola Keys, wife of W.J.Keys, 541 South Fourth Street, died at the Gill Hospital Wednesday at 11:20 p.m. She had been in poor health six years and more critical the past six days. She was born on Linden Avenue and was 68 years of age January 4, 1939.Her parents were Robert and Kate Johnson Hoover, both deceased, who were early residents in this city. She was married to Mr Keys 46 years ago from December 27, 1938. These children survive: Mabel, wife of George Mayhew of this city, Charles and Bert, at Toledo; four grandaughters, Nellie, wife of Jerry O'Day and Hilda, wife of Harold Futrelle both at Ecorse, Mighigan, Betty Mayhew and Mrs. Dorothey Oller, both of Steuenville, a grandson, William Mayhew, four great grandchildren, Sharon O'Day and Thomas Futrell at Ecorse, Mchigan, Marlene and Gayle Oller, a sister, Mrs. Laura Turner of Steubenville, a brother John and sister Nannette are deceased. Mrs Keys was a member of the First M.E Church. She was a former resident of the old Sixth ward when she was a member of Thompson M.E.Church. She was noted for her neighborly kindness and happy personality and her death will be a matter of regret to many friends made during a lifetime spent in this community. Two step grandchildren, Kenneth Keenan and Peggy Keys at Toledo.
