Dan is survived by his wife, Lulu (Backus), of 59 years; two children, Philip (Roberta) of Mountlake Terrace, and Danna Lou Smith of Niles, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Patrick McClelland, Pamela Modine and Errin Cabebe, all of Edmonds, Jerhamie and Daniel Sterret, and Joel Woodard, all of Springcreek, Pennsylvania; two great-grandchildren, Salina McClelland and Nathan Modine; and three nieces; and two nephews.
Dan joined the United States Navy in January, 1942, serving until the end of World War II. He then joined the Naval Reserves in Seattle. He was called back into service during the Korean War.
Dan was a meat cutter in the Seattle area. Upon retirement, he moved into his Edmonds home. In 1990 Dan and Lulu moved to Lago De Plata Mobile Home Park. They spent their summers touring all the continental United States and Canada, and spent their winters in Arizona.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Saint Albans Episcopal Church, 21405 82nd Place West, Edmonds, Washington. Remains will be placed at the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery.
