GALVESTON — Velma "Ms. Hoolie" Willis, 76 passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2005, at UTMB Hospital.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of E. R. Johnson Family Mortuary, with the Rev. Gerald Dorsey, officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

Visitation will begin today August 26, 2005, at 4 p.m. followed by a wake from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Velma was born August 12, 1929, in Huntsville, Texas to Herman and Allie Samuels. A longtime resident of Galveston, she was an employee of Joe Max Taylor for over 25 years and a caring mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Shedrick Samuel and adoptive sister, Ella Wiley.

She is survived by her sons, Jessie Willis, Jr. (Earline), James Willis, Leo Larry Willis (Denise), Kenneth W. Willis and Ricky Willis; daughters, Barbara Ann Kelly, Alfricka Willis (Jimmy), Diane Austin (Reginald) and Veronica Willis (John, Jr.); 21 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; uncle, Herman Johnson; aunts, Ora Dell Sims and Iris Kennedy; cousin, Janie Walker; friends, Ruby Lawson and Dujann Walker; a host of other relatives and friends
