Harold E. "Itty Bitty" Horn, 94, Warsaw, formerly of Mentone, went home to be with the Lord at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, July 10 2014, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

Harold was born on Feb. 17, 1920, in Fulton County, to Fred A. and Anna Lavera (Stockberger) Horn. On June 28, 1941, in Hamlet, he married Velma F. Ailer.

He was a 1938 graduate of Mentone High School. In World War II, he was a sergeant in the 106th Infantry Division and 423rd Regiment. He was on the battle lines on Dec. 16, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge. His regiment as well as the 422nd were captured. He evaded capture and went on to participate in three more campaigns. He was awarded the Soldier's Medal for Heroism during the sinking of the troop ship USS Coolidge in the Pacific.

Harold worked at Manwaring Poultry Farm for 45 years. He attended the Riverview Community Church, Tippecanoe, and was a past member of the Mentone Masonic Lodge. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Sebring, Fla. He also loved carpentry, woodworking, telling stories, as well as being a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Horn, Warsaw; daughter Vicki and husband Tim Mikel, Mentone; two sons, Freddie W. and wife Debbie Horn, Carterville, Ga., and Mickey and wife Janice Horn, Macy; five grandchildren, Anthony Horn, Andrew Horn, Troy Horn, Sarah Christena and Emily White; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; four sisters, Leota Holloway, Talma, Shirley and husband Richard Wine, Warsaw, Donna Baker, Warsaw, and Beverly Sue Murphy, Akron.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Connie, grandson Todd Horn, three sisters and four brothers.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Rev. Rodney Ruberg officiating. Visitation is noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at the funeral home.

Burial is in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, where graveside military rites will be performed by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Warsaw.
