Samuel Arnold Adkins, 83, of Columbia Station, passed away peacefully Friday, January 3, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born April 28, 1930, in Grandview, West Virginia and was a resident of Lorain County since 1952.

Sam was a Korean War veteran, serving 13 months in Korea with the 101st Airborne Division and was discharged in 1951 as a corporal. He was employed for 33 years as a machinist at Ford Motor Company Engine Plant One in Brook Park, until retiring in 1994. Sam was a member of Elyria AmVets Post 32.

A fan of country and bluegrass music, he played a Martin Guitar, enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals, and had an extensive collection of bluegrass and country music videos.

Sam is survived by his children, Samuel (Darlene) Adkins of Patrick, South Carolina, Judy (Nick Toth) Kruse of Strongsville, Richard Adkins of Amherst and Dale (Donna) Adkins of Elyria; 10 grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald in 1998; daughter, Patricia in 1954; and parents, Arnold and Lacy Adkins.

Friends will be received Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from 3 to 6 P.M., at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A funeral service will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 11 A.M., in the funeral home, with Reverend Jim Hurst officiating.

Burial will be in Columbia Township Cemetery, where Elyria V.F.W. #1079 will present military honors.
