Frank F. Hansford, 79, of New London, died Friday at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, after a sudden illness.

He was born in Pulaski County, Ky., and graduated from Burnside High School, Burnside, Ky. He was raised in Cincinnati, moved from Elyria to Wakeman in 1992 and then to New London in 1997. He served in the Marines during World War II. He received a Purple Heart when he was wounded in action in 1944, and also in Guam, Marianas Islands.

He worked at Fruehoff for 10 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wakeman.

He was a life member of VFW Post 1662 of Amherst; DAV of Cincinnati; MOPH of Elyria; Marine Corp League, Elyria Post 21; American Legion Post 211 of Avon Lake; Mount Gilead Lodge 255 of Science Hill, Ky.; Scottish Rite of Cincinnati; and the Lu Lu Shrine Temple in Philadelphia, Pa.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mabel (Henderson); three sons, Bill. Finley and Lee; two sisters, Lois Jean Thomas and Dorothy Wilson; and one brother, Paul Hansford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore G. and Minnie Thompson Hansford; and two sisters, Elizabeth Lyons and Margaret Hansford.

Masonic services will be conducted Sunday at Gerber-Smith Funeral Home at 7 pm. Services will be Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Avon, Ohio with graveside military services conducted by VFW Post 1662 of Amherst.
