JAMES R. LUKER James R. Luker, a WWII veteran was born December 6, 1925 in Waco, TX to Robert & Bessie Luker.. JR, 88, passed away July 9, 2014 at home surrounded by loved ones. JR entered the U.S. Coast Guard at the age of 18 where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Racine serving on the shakedown crew and traveling ¾ of the way around the world escorting captured and friendly vessels through the waters. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sealc(EM) and awarded a Plank Owner’s Certificate as a charter member of the U.S.S. Racine –PF100. On June 23, 1956 he married Joanne M. Warner who blessed him with 3 devoted sons and 1 adoring daddy’s girl. JR spent the next 32 years of his civilian life working for Bovaird before retiring in 1982. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne Warner Luker, son Daniel Luker & wife Shelly; daughter Donna Baker & husband Kim; son Dennis Luker & wife Denise, grandchildren Heather McKibben & husband JB, Jesica Carlile & husband Scotty, Tabitha Humphries & husband Ryan, Shawna Dominguez & husband Ben, Rashel Everett & husband Josh, Dustin Luker & wife Ashley, Jace Luker & wife Morgan, McKenzie Luker & Evan Luker. He also leaves behind 20 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents Robert & Bessie Luker; 3 brothers Cyrus Luker, Marvin Luker & Forrest Luker; (2) sisters Opal Dean Hurt & Robbie McCutcheon; son Douglas Luker; granddaughter Alexandra Luker & great-grandson Jayden Carlile. Special thanks to Home Hospice, especially Debbie Harris & Jessica Sotelo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Money officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
