daughter of John Fath & Martha Neugent

Funeral services were held at the Coffeen Presbyterian church, Sunday afternoon at one o'clock for Mrs. Ethel Irene Joyce, wife of Mancel Joyce, who died, Thursday night at nine o'clock at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. The services were conducted by the Rev. J. E. Reynolds of Hillsboro and the remains were brought to Oak Grove cemetery in Hillsboro for burial.

Mr. Joyce had been ill for two years with carcinoma, and she had been at the hospital in Litchfield for two weeks prior to her death. The nature of her malady was known to make her case hopeless, by her relatives and friends as she had been critically ill for months before her death. After she became ill no hope was held for her recovery and she gradually grew weaker until her death occurred.

The deceased was born and reared in the Fath neighborhood four miles southeast of Hillsboro. Her parents were the late John and Martha Fath, and she was born at the Fath home, on August 5, 1889. She died four days after reaching her forty-seventh birthday.

She was educated in that neighborhood and grew to womanhood there.

On February 29, 1909 she and Mancel Joyce of that community, were married at Coffeen and they started housekeeping and always lived near her birthplace. They had two children Maurice Joyce, and Miss Mary Joyce of Hillsboro, both of whom survive. With her husband and two children are the following sisters and brothers who survive her: Mrs. Medora Henry of Elmhurst, Mrs. Anna Lentz of Hillsboro, Mrs. Maud May of Staunton, Luke Fath of Irving, Charles Fath of Monte Vista, Colorado; and Eugene Fath of Hillsboro.,

Mrs. Joyce was one of the most highly regarded residents of her neighborhood. She was liked by all who knew her and she had many friends who were deeply saddened by her death.
