Broadcast Journalist. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was a graduate of Columbia University. He was the former head of NBC News from 1968 to 1973 and from 1982 to 1984. He was the creator and producer of the shows "Weekend" and "NBC News Overnight." In the late 1950's he helped create the news anchor team of Chet Huntley and David Brinkley of the "Huntley-Brinkley Report," one of most successful and respected news programs in the history of broadcast journalism. In 1962 he produced the Emmy award winning documentary "The Tunnel" depicting the escape of 59 people beneath the Berlin Wall from Soviet occupied East Germany.
