Perry L. Moss was born "slow," with what might now be known as Autism and Mental Retardation/Development Disabilities. He lived at his birth home with his family for the early part of his years. When he reached puberty his family was unable to care for him and he lived out his life at the Orient State Hospital for the Feeble Minded, one of the first facilities established for the care of the developmentally delayed in Ohio. Perry, due to his mental disability, died indigent and was buried by the grace of the nuns providing care to the patients at Orient State. By all accounts he was a well respected resident, was a trustee and generally a congenial, well liked individual.
