Martha was born August 28, 1934 in Merritt, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Bessie May Marshall. She married William Franklin "Dale" Mathews on July 5, 1953 in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 9, 2012.
Martha was employed at Motorola for 20 years, but while raising her children over the years, she also held other jobs, including positions at St. Mary's Hospital and Wareco. After her retirement, she and her husband spent time engaging in their passion for travel.
She loved the Lord, and Martha had been very active in the Liberty Christian Church. In her later years, she attended different churches in Quincy until her health prevented her from doing so. Martha loved listening to and singing old Gospel music, and she passed that love down to her children.
In her spare time, Martha enjoyed making all sorts of crafts, but her true pleasure came in giving these gifts of the heart to her family and friends. Most of all, Martha loved her family, who were her life's priority. She was a dedicated and devoted mother and grandmother. Martha was a true people person who never met a stranger, and she will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her gratitude, and her generosity.
Survivors include five children: Rick Mathews of Quincy; Cynthia (Ray) Dufour of Prescott, AZ; Kathy (Jeffrey) Sibbing of Quincy; Mike (Vickie) Mathews of Quincy; and Debbie (Doug) Meyers of Taylor, MO; 10 grandchildren: Joshua Tiemann of Las Vegas, NV; Heather (Kyle) Brummal of Rogers, AR; Michelle Mathews of Batavia, IA; Ricky Elder, Jenny Mathews, Shawn Sibbing, Courtney Mathews, and Dylan Mathews Sibbing, all of Quincy; and Michael and Levi Meyers, both of Taylor, MO; two great-grandchildren, Macy Brummal of Rogers, AR, and Bryson Sibbing of Quincy.
