LAMAR - Samuel Hartwell "Hart" Segars, 77, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his home after an illness. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Samuel Edward and Jessie Windham Segars.

Mr. Segars was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Sonoco Paper Products after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Old Timer's Club of Sonoco and the VFW. He was also a member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, where he served as steward and a member of the choir.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Donna Parnell Segars of Lamar; a son, Carroll H. Segars of Hartsville; two daughters, Cindy Bladel and Marsha Odom, both of Hartsville: a stepson, Billy Fields of Hartsville: a sister, Vivian Boyle of Sumter: 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church. Burial was in Lamar Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church, 1665 Philadelphia St., Darlington, SC 29532. Belk Funeral Home Inc., 229 W. Broad St., Darlington, was in charge of arrangements.
