Norbert E. Shimon, age 84, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, was born to eternal life on Monday, Oct. 22, 2007.
Norbert was born on April 17, 1923, in Reedsville to Edward and Barbara (nee Burich) Shimon. He graduated from Reedsville High School and trained as a machinist in Manitowoc. During World War II, Norbert served as a motor machinist on an LST. Following delivery of troops to Normandy and the Pacific invasion preparation, his LST returned enemy troops from various Pacific islands, to China and Japan. In 1948, he married Irene Vondrachek. Together, they operated Shimon Flooring, in New Holstein.
Norbert installed floors until he was 80 years old. He was also actively involved in bowling, putting 15 strikes together at the age of 79. Norbert also enjoyed the summertime activity of pitching horseshoes with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Barbara Shimon; his wife: Irene; his sons: Thomas and Gary; and his brother: Edward. Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at noon at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison St., New Holstein.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, from 9 a.m. to noon at the church. A luncheon will be served after the Mass. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Reedsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Gideon'sInternational, or the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.
