Kenneth "Brad" Eugene Bradfield, age 89 of Toney, Alabama, a longtime resident of Hutchinson, Kansas, died Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama. Born in 1924 in New Matamoras, Ohio, he was the son of the late Barney Clifford and Blanche Edna Teeman Bradfield.
The family moved to Kansas when Kenneth was 2 years old and lived in Chase and Raymond, Kansas. Mr.Bradfield was preceded in death by his late wife Twila Bradfield and close cousin Bob Amos.
Mr. Bradfield is survived by his children Gwenneth Threadgill and her husband Gene of Troy, AL, and Kevin Bradfield and his wife Jeanette of San Francisco, CA; step-children Larry Wiens of Hutchinson, KS, Patty Wiens of Colorado Springs, CO, and Vicki Vincent of Hutchinson, KS; grandchildren Megan Bradfield of San Francisco, CA, Spencer Bradfield of Tulsa, OK, Stacy Krumme of Columbia, MO, Rachel Pritchett and Regan Bell of Troy, AL; five step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bradfield was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Hutchinson where he was an elde rand active member. He was most recently ministered to by Concord Baptist Church of Toney, AL. After graduating from Chase High School, Mr. Bradfield entered the armed forces. He was a proud veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre, flying 33missions out of England. After military duties, Mr. Bradfield graduated cum laude from Kansas State University in Electrical Engineering and was a Professional Engineer until his death. He retired from Kansas Power and Light after 38 years of service; serving most of that time as Superintendent of Engineering and later District Manager in Hutchinson. Mr. Bradfield was a longtime member of the Hutchinson Noon Optimist Club, Basset Masonic Lodge124, Reno County Shrine Club, Boy Scouts of America, and an elected school board member for USD 309– Nickerson/South Hutchinson. Through his memberships in these organizations, Mr. Bradfield took pride in serving as Soap Box Derby organizer, Christmas tree sales organizer, crippled children's ambassador, scoutmaster, state fair booth organizer, and 15 years as little league baseball coach.
Visitation will be from 9:00AM to 1:30PM Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 300 E 30th, Hutchinson, Kansas 67502. Family will be present from 11:30AM to 1:30PM.Graveside service with military honors will be Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 2:30PM at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum, 5905 W 4th Ave, Hutchinson, Kansas with Pastor Jim Rhaesa presiding.
