GALVESTON — Celia Wheatley Thompson, 89, departed this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Clear Lake Physical Hospital.

Mrs. Thompson was born March 22,1910, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to the family of Tom and Lucy Wheatley. In 1937, she moved to Galveston where she committed her life to God, her family, and to her husband Israel Thompson.

She accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful
member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church where she served as president of Mission #1. She was also involved with the Mother's Union, Sunday School, and offered her support with any activity in the church. She worked for many tireless years at John Sealy Hospital.

Mrs. Thompson is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lucille Plummer; son, Herbert Holt; and daughter, Elizabeth Barnett.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son, Alex Holt; a devoted great grandchild, Ronda Word; grandchildren, Mark Holt, Thadfprd Holt, Frederick Holt, lanthia Mills, Joyce McNeil, Margaret Ann Flint, Linda Faye Willis, Elaine Williams, Carey Wheatley, Jr., and Deloris Below; sister-in-law Ruthamae Wheatley; daughterin- law, Carrie Wheatley, son-inlaw, John Barnett; a host of great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren and devoted relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18,2000, at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church with Rev. James P. Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Galveston, Texas. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed by a wake service from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17th, at the chapel of Fields Funeral Home.
