After 1871, his mother died, and Jeremiah remarried Martha (Rawcliffe) Gibson, a widow, in Feb 1875. His father died in 1884, in Halifax, England.

12 June 1875, in the parish of Halifax, St. John the Baptist, West Yorkshire, England, Tom Clayton, 24, batchelor, dyer, son of Jeremiah Clayton, joiner, married Rebecca Ann Watson, 20, spinster, daughter of Thomas and Jane Watson.

John Clayton, Tom's only surviving son, was b. Nov 1885 in Philadelphia.

In 1930, Tom lived with his son John Clayton and John's wife, Mildred, in West Boyleston.

(Note: some have suggested that this man served in the U. S. Civil War. This is not so. He is too young to have participated, and he was not present in the U. S. 1861 - 1865.)
