Thomas M. Warner, born July 30, 1836, with his wife and father of Springfield, Ill., came to Missouri and settled at the Smith Corner south of Graham, a hilly and unsettled country. Mr. Warner, better known as Uncle Tom, and his wife, the former Mary Padgett of Illinois (called Aunt Mary), lived here for a while before moving to Smith Center, Kansas. Hearing of the railroad being built through a small town called Maitland, he brought his family by covered wagon here in 1879. Their son, Charles, was born Feb. 2, the first baby born in the new town not yet incorporated. The following children were born to this union:
(1) Marcella (Ransom) Shields-b. Feb. 5, 1867-di. Mar. 3, 1945.
(2) Lulu M. (James) Pool-b. Dec. 3, 1869-d. Feb. 15, 1942.

(4) Oliver
(5) Julius-B. Jan. 20, 1863-d. Nov. 10, 1925
(6) George Padgett-b. April 10, 1875-d. Feb. 6, 1917-m. Cora Shaner.
(7) Charles-b. Feb. 2, 1879-d. Mar. 7, 1949.
In later years Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary, with their son, Julius (bachelor) moved to Billings, Montana, living there a few years and then back to a farm near Amazonia, Mo. From there to the farm owned by Leland Bohart, moving from there to Maitland, living there until his death May 4, 1914, and hers on May 27, 1920.
