Son of Richard Cary & Sarah Louisa (Davis) Morse.
Graduated Yale in 1856, and in 1858 became involved with his father's paper, The New York "Observer" and later became the owner.
Several years later, he sold it, traveled abroad, but didn't take well to retirement.
In 1878, he erected the Morse building, corner of Nassau & Beekman Streets, and for years was the tallest building in New York City, not have faith in the elevator system, he invented his own, known as "Morse's Folly". He stayed active in the real estate business until his passing.
On November 1, 1859, he married Anna Matilda Church, in Belvidere, Alleghey, NY.
They had 2 daughters, Mary Trumbull & Elizabeth Breese.
Elizabeth married Rufus Delafield.
