GORDO Edward Armon Franklin, Sr., age 77, of Gordo, died July 19, 2011, at home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Hershal Owen and Rev. Cary Kirkley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with military flag presentation by his grandson Staff Sergeant Nicholas Hallman with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma Robertson and Lola Baird; and brothers, Duel Franklin and Euel "Buck" Franklin.

Survivors include wife, Alice Kley Franklin of Gordo; daughter, Theresa Hallman and husband, Terry; sons, Edward A. Franklin, Jr., Wendell Franklin and wife, Mary, and Claus Osbahr; sister, Lois Boswell and Cora Lee Ledbetter; brother, Olan C. Franklin; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Franklin was born November 27, 1933 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Harley Albertious Franklin and Ester Bertie McCraw Franklin. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a retired truck driver. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Pallbearers will be David Gray, Johnny Hartley, Jack Fair, Larry Latham, Skip Sutton, Lindsey Watkins, Alt. Robert Sellers, and James Akin.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Emmanuel Baptist Church, employees of First National Bank of Central Alabama, Shiloh community, the Latham family, Gerald and Sammy Cobb, Drs. and nurses of DCH Regional Medical Center, the Cancer Care Center, Dr. Nachani with VA Medical Center, Dr. Bob Grubbs and staff of University Family Practice, and Dr. Irvan Lindsey of Alabama Chiropractic.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
