GALVESTON — Jerry Wayne Chambers, 48, native Galvestonian, traveled home on June 29, 2014, at his residence.

Jerry was born June 25, 1966 in Galveston, Texas. Disabled since 1995, he spent his time reading and studying Greek and Roman history, writing poetry, talking and playing games with family and friends. A self pronounced therapist, he loved giving advice and direction to anyone that would seek his advice. Prior to becoming disabled, he attended Galveston College studying Pre-Nursing. Jerry loved to write poetry and short stories. He published a short cartoon that became very popular on the internet and was working on a novel of his life as a long time dialysis patient. In a brief move to Louisiana, he changed his major to English Studies and attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe to continue and complete these studies. He encouraged others around him to continue their education because he felt that this could only enrich one's life.

Preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Sr. and Beatrice Chambers, brothers, Rufus Chambers, Jr. and Alfred Lee Ford, nieces Kiana Phearse Massey, and Khalilah Chambers Massey and a very cherished aunt, Doris Myers he leaves to cherish his memories a very loving family and friends.

Jerry is survived by sister Ruthie Chambers of Galveston, Texas, nephew Wayne Massey of Friendswood, Texas and his fiancé Monique Hill, nieces: Monik Ford and Deneshawn Ford of Houston; great nieces, Wonyae Chambers Massey and Kiera Richardson, best friends and adopted brothers, Scott Boates of Houston, Texas and Anthony "Tony" Smith of Galveston, Texas, God brother and God Sister, Clint Felton of Houston, Texas and Aretha Felton,of Texas City, Texas devoted cousin, Ura Ann Flores of Texas City and a host of very devoted family and friends.

The family of Jerry Chambers would like to send a most sincere thanks to Dr. Michelle Mercatante, Dr. Crudo and the other physicians at Island Davita Dialysis Center in Galveston, Texas. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Dialysis Center, A-Med and Home Health Providers and the staff of Galveston EMS for all of their patience and service. Thanks to Dr. Kocurek and the wound care staff at the Mainland Center.

Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Shiloh A.M.E. Church in Galveston, Texas. Jerry's going home service will begin at 11:00 a.m. also at the Church, with Reverend Kevin Hodge officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston, Texas under the direction of Wynn Funeral Home.
