Billy Jack Arthur, a Saltillo native, died Friday, July 4, 2014 in Houston, Texas where he had made his home since the late 1970s. Jack was born December 28, 1928; the only child of Carl Ward Arthur and Terrell Arthur. He grew up in the company of these cousins which survive him: Gerald DeShazo of Elkhart, Derwin DeShazo of Bullard, James Ward of Longview, Eric Arthur, Jr. of Corpus Christi, and Ben Loving of Manhattan Beach, California. Jack graduated from Saltillo High School and then received a Bachelor's Degree in business (1950) and a Master of Education Degree (1952) from East Texas State University in Commerce. He spent his professional career as an oil and gas accountant working in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Jack was committed believer in Christ since days of his youth in the Baptist Church. For the last twenty years he has been blessed as an active member of First Methodist Church in Houston. Memorial and Interment services will be the morning of Wednesday, July 9 at the Old Saltillo Methodist church and cemetery where he will rest with his parents and many other relatives. The body will lie in state in the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. to be followed with a Memorial Service at 10:00.
