Civil War officer. Commander, 4th Vermont Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Brother of Samuel E. Pingree, Medal of Honor Recipient and Vermont Governor. Moved with family to Hartford. Attended local schools. Studied law, admitted to bar, commenced practice, 1860. Married to Mary E. Foster of Bethel (June 3, 1838-October 1, 1890). Enlisted for Civil War at age 26. Commissioned as first lieutenant, Company E, 4th Vermont Volunteer Infantry Regiment, September 6, 1861. Promoted to captain, Company K, April 21, 1862. Promoted to major, 4th VVI, November 5, 1862. Promoted to lieutenant colonel, April 30, 1864. Mustered out, September 30, 1864. Engaged in lucrative Hartford law practice with brother under firm name Pingree and Pingree. Member, Reunion Society of Vermont Officers.
