On November 11, 1950 in Calvary Baptist Church, South Bend, Richard married the former Norma J. Pendl, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 63 years and devoted caregiver, Norma, he is survived by daughters, Cheryl Dorman and Ann Lai (Jim); son, Jeffery Dorman (Stephanie); four grandchildren, Stephen (Marci) Lai, Andrew (Sarah) Lai and Timothy and Lauren Dorman; four great grandchildren, Jalynn and Jax Lai and Blake and Madeleine Lai; and one sister, Doris Francis.
Richard worked as a lithographer in the printing industry. He and Norma were founding members of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in 1969, and remained lifelong members. Richard was a chess enthusiast and a lifelong member of the US Chess Federation. He also loved canoeing.
Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend, with Rev. Steve Meck officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, July 11, 2014 as well as one hour prior to services on Saturday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
