Susanna Scales of Casco Bay, in the County of York & Province of the Massachusetts Bay. in New England, Relict & Widow & Admin of the Estate of William Scales, late of North Yarmouth, aforesaid Yeoman, deceased, sendeth greeting. Know thee that whereas the said William Scales in his life time bought & purchased of Mr Sampson Salter, of Boston, cooper, a tract of land in North Yarmouth, containing by estimation 249 acres, butted & bounded easterly upon the Bay, southerly upon a fresh water brook, northerly upon the land of James Buxton, together with the houses etc And whereas the said Susanna Scales upon her petition of the present October to the Great & General Court, was impowered to reconvey to the said Sampson Salter, for the reasons in said petition, the said land. Now further know ye, that I, Susanna Scales, by virtue of the power & authority so granted. Have granted unto ye said Sampson Salter the aforementioned tract of land etc. In witness the 21st day of October 1728."
OLD TIMES IN NORTH YARMOUTH, MAINE. pg 630- 631, 823.
"Whereas, William Scales, made in his life time considerable improvement in the town, by building, fenceing, breaking up and clearing land, the Committee have Assigned part of that land by him so improved, to the legal representatives of the said William Scales, being the fifty ninth lott in number, bordering on the bay: and in consideration that the aforesaid William Scales lost his life in the late Indian War, in defending his house and family when residing there, and having left a widow and several children in strait and distressed Circumstences occasioned by the aforesaid war, the Committee do agree & consent that a Lot containing ten acres lying next to the lot Assigned & Confirmed to the Representatives of the dec'd bordering on the Salt Water, to be in breadth by the waterside twenty-rod and of the same dimensions in the back or Rear thereof, be Assigned to Susanna Scales, widow and relict of the said William Scales, dec'd, to her, her heirs and Assignes in fee, exclusive of all or any after divisions or Rights."
