ROCK HILL - Clara Mae Foster Carroll, 99, of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at home. Born in McConnells, S.C., Mrs. Carroll was the daughter of the late Marion Williams Foster and Mary Estelle Foster. She was an honorary life member of Bethesda Women of the Church. She taught the Ione Williams Sunday school class. She had also been a member of the Home Demonstration Club of Bethesda Community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Louis Carroll; two brothers, Marion Williams Foster Jr. and Harold Guy Foster; and a son-in-law, Jerry Gardner. She is survived by three daughters, Peggy Harshaw (John) of McConnells, S.C., Mary Joe Gardner of Rock Hill, and Trudy Amick (Trey) of Rock Hill; two brothers, Joe Foster of Asheville, N.C., and Harold Foster of Alabama; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Carroll will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Smoak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family would like to express their thanks to all the caregivers and to Interim Hospice.
