George Frederick Phelps was born September 18, 1872 in Worstershire, England to George Phelps and Elizabeth Anne Foster. He was the 4th child and 3rd son in the family. His brothers and sisters were: Emma Elizabeth, Heber George, George Bayles, Herbert Everett, Lizzie Mae, Louis Foster, Addie Alida and Annie Maude. Lizzie May and Louis Foster dying one day apart and were buried in the same grave. When George was 10 months old, his mother, with five children crossed the ocean to join his father in Bristol New York. The family lived in Bristol for about 10 years, when his father died of pneumonia. He was buried in Johnstown and the family moved to Bingham Junction near Salt Lake City, Utah. George helped support his mother by selling newspapers at 10 years old. George was baptized into the LDS Church October 30, 1882. George married Zina Mae Butterfield December 16, 1896. She was only 16 years old. They made their home in Salt Lake for 2 years before moving to Taylorsville for 19 years. They were the parents of 11 Children: Frederick Leo, Rosella Mae, Clyde Burdett, Gladys Alberta, Willford Everett, Zina Merle, Vera Elizabeth, Ruth Foster, Orval Kemp, Ila Fay, & George Newell. George ran a pig business with his brother Andrew, in Taylorsville, and did quite well until the pigs got Cholera and died. They decided to move to a farm in Bluffdale. They all lived in a tent until the home was built. They either raised or planted their needs. George also worked US Smelter and Refining Company in Midvale. The farm failed in 1932. There was no water for the crops and everything was dry. They moved to Midvale, Utah His daughter Merle was left a widow with two small boys 2 & 3 years old, Dean and Billy, and they moved in with them. It broke Zina's heart to leave the farm and she died Jun 24, 1938. George married Lizza Dotty, a cousin of Zina's later divorced and then he married Evelyn Conley, a mother in law of one of George's nieces. They later divorced. In his later years he lived with his daughter Rose & Lee and then with his daughter Merle and Hon, where he died April 18, 1955. He is buried in the Midvale Cemetery, Midvale, Utah.
