Daniel Merkel died very suddenly at his home, a mile and a half north of Americus, about 5:30 a. m. Monday. Mrs. Merkel had been up to build a fire, but went back to bed, when she and her husband talked a few minutes. She got up again and left the room, but soon heard Mr. Merkel moaning. Returning to the bedroom, she found him dying.
The deceased man was born in Pennsylvania, 58 years ago last June. Early in life he was united in marriage with Dora Lewis, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Lewis. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, two brothers, David and Elmer Merkel, and three sisters, Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Beanblossom, in Ohio, and Mrs. A. A. Bitner, of Congerville, Ill.
The funeral service was conducted at Coburn, Thursday forenoon. The burial was at Fair Haven.
