Wife of John D. Shipley, died at her home on West 8th street on Saturday morning last, Nov. 6, after many months of most intense suffering, having been sick since last April, and confined to her bed since the 20th of August. During the summer she had an eye removed on account of a cancerous formation. Only temporary relief was afforded by the operation, for the growth began to form again immediately and but little could be done to relieve the suffering which resulted, but which she bore patiently and with fortitude until death came to her relief. Other troubles were complicated with that above mentioned, and added to the burden of her affliction. The funeral, which was very largely attended, was held from the house Monday at 1:30 p.m. With service conducted by Rev. J. D. Rumsey, of Leroy, formerly pastor of the baptist church, of this city, and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Ridge cemetery. Judith Margaret Barney was born at Eden, Erie co., N. Y., Nov. 19, 1830, and married John D. Shipley at Burlington, Wis., Nov. 30, 1854. They lived at Prairie du Chien until June 1856, when they removed to Minnesota, and lived in Medford and vicinity until 1873, when they came to Faribault, which has ever since been their home. She was a faithful christian, working always in a quiet and unostentatious manner, and had been a member of the baptist church for a third of a century. Beside a husband, she leaves a daugther, Mrs. Genevieve Parsons, of this city, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Orrin Ingram, of Minneapolis, a brother, John Barney, of Medford, two sisters, Mrs. Chloe Powell, and Mrs. Hannah Barney, of Atlantic, Iowa. Mr. W. P. Bissell, of Oneida, Iowa, Mrs. G. C. Barney, of Milbank, S. D., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gibson, of Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Ingram, of Minneapolis; and Mr. S. R. Shipley, of Iowa Falls, were here from abroad to attend the funeral. The bereaved husband, and daughter and the grandchildren have the deepest sympathy of all in their affliction.
