A letter has been received from Waterville, Wash., by Mrs. C. E. Rogers, bringing the sad news of the death of George G. Howe, which occurred in that place on the 11th inst. Mr. Howe was residing with his son, Milton B. Howe, and had stepped out to the barn temporarily. His son going out soon after, found him lying on the ground lifeless but with warmth still in the body. Mr. Howe had been afflicted with heart disease for some years, and this was probably the cause of death. He was born in Michigan, and his age was about 75. He married Miss Emily A. Nutting, at Northampton, Mass., who died in 1890. Mr. Howe came to Minnesota about 1854. For a number of years he was employed in surveying in the U. S. Government service in company with Capt. R. H. L. Jewett, the firm being Jewett & Howe. He afterwards spent several years in Todd county as the agent of a Holland capitalist who had large landed interests there. In 1890 he removed to Waterville, Wash., where his son and daughter resided, to be near them. Mr. Howe was a man of most sterling traits of character, a devout christian of the baptist faith, an honest, energetic and most examplary citizen and universally respected in the community in which he lived. He leaves two children, a son, Milton B. and a daughter, Mrs. A. L. Rogers, both residing in Waterville, Wash. The body has been temporarily interred in that place with a view of ultimate removal to the family lot in Oak Ridge cemetery in this city.
