The Rev. Chales Spoor Batchelder II, 72, of Story City, Iowa, and formerly of Faribault, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, in Mary Greeley Hospital, Ames, Iowa. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Lukes United Church of Christ, Faribault, with the Rev. Ron Wik of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church officiating. There will be no visitation. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Jewel, Iowa, with the Rev. Harlen Johnson officiating. He will be cremated. Burial will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery prior to services Friday. The Rev. Charles Spoor Batchelder II, the son of Kelsey Chase and Edith (Olin) Batchelder, was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Faribault. He was a missionary pastor to Taiwan from 1963 until 1991 when he retired and moved to Story City. Prior to entering the seminary, he was a dairy farmer near Faribault. He served in the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II. On June 16, 1951, he married Orvella Brekke in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Jewel. He is survived by his wife; one son, Donald Batchelder of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Martha (and Craig) Overgaard of Fergus Falls, Ruth Batchelder of Minneapolis and Elizabeth (and Joel) Christenson of Singapore; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Dr. Jane McReynolds of Mannessa, Va., and Edith Elliott of Canton, Texas; four brothers, Dr. Albert Batchelder of Faribault, Kelsey Batchelder of New York, N.Y., Christopher Batchelder of Rochester and John Batchelder of Mason, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Anna Marie Batchelder; and one brother, Mark Batchelder.
