Vernon E. Dice, 80, of rural Palo died Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born Dec. 5, 1901, near West Liberty, he was married to H. Gertrude Rabel on Nov. 26, 1942, at Fairfield. He attended Iowa State University and farmed in the Palo area for 25 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, Fidelitas Lodge No. 364 AF&AM of Fairfax where he had served as Master, and was past president of the Linn County Farm Bureau, Linn County Farm Service Co. and Linn County Swine Producers. He also was a member of El Kahir Shrine Temple and 101 Unit, Trowel Chapter No. 49 R.A.M., Palestine Council No. 27 R.& S. M., Appollo Commandery No. 26 K.T., Linn County Health Improvement Association board, and O.E.S. Fairest Chapter No. 382 of Fairfax where he served as past patron. He served on the board of Trinity United Methodist Church where he also served as president of the Upstream Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three brothers, Warren M. of Anchorage, Alaska, V. Clifford of Colo, and Howard C. of Panguitch, Utah; two sisters, Mildred M. Reid of Albuquerque, N.M., and Gertrude Conn of Des Moines; and two grandsons.
Services: 1 pm Saturday at Turner Chapel West by the Rev. Robert A. Dennert of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Masonic services by Fidelitas Lodge No. 364 AF&AM. All Master Masons are asked to meet at the Chapel at 12:45 pm Saturday. Friends may call at the Chapel from 9 am to 9 pm Friday and from 9 am to 12:50 pm Saturday when the casket will be closed. It will not be open following services. Friends may make a memorial contribution to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3rd Avenue and Fifth Street SW 52404, or to Fidelitas Lodge No. 364, in care of Ernest Vasbinder, treasurer, 5045 First Ave. SW 52404.
