Gertrude Hagan was the second of three daughters born to John and Sarah J. Martin Hagan.

Gertrude was married twice. Her first marriage was in 1900 to James H. Danbury. Her second marriage was in 1922 to Dr. William B. Alexander.

Gertrude and William had no children but provided a home for Gertrude's older sister Minnie. Gert and Minnie continued to live together after William's death.

Gertrude was a member of the Methodist Church of Gentryville and a member of the Rebecca's Lodge.
