John William Cannon, known by friends and family as J.W., age 93, passed away at his home in Floydada on July 4, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Floydada with Pastor Tim Franks officiating. Interment will follow at Floydada Cemetery under the direction of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home.
J.W. was born on May 13, 1921 in Marlow, Oklahoma to Robert M. and Ora Belle (Stewart) Cannon. He married Wilma Dolores Smalley on August 6, 1949 at her parent's home in the Muncy Community. J.W. was married for over 64 years to the love of his life, Dolores, and was blessed with two sons, Douglas and Steven. The couple was honored in 2004 as Floyd County's Pioneer Couple of the Year.
J.W. was ordained as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church on June 28, 1959. He also served his community for over 22 years as a volunteer firefighter and he retired as Power Plant Supervisor after working for over 36 years for the City of Floydada. J.W. was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Floydada.
He is survived by his wife Dolores Cannon of Floydada; his sons Douglas Cannon and wife Vickie of San Antonio and Steven Cannon and wife Jana of Plainview; his six grandchildren, Jeff, Brian, Beth, Shawn, Chris, and Jonathon; and his nine great-grandchildren.
