‘Papa Jack’

GALVESTON — Steve "Papa Jack" Sanders, Sr., 94, departed this life on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at his residence in Galveston.

Visitation will held from 4 -6 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005, at E. R. Johnson, followed by a wake from 7 - 8 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church (30th & Sealy).

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the St. John Baptist Church with Pastor Louis Simpson, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

Steve was born July 15, 1910, in Montgomery County, Texas, to Will and Latish Pruett Sanders. He was a retired Longshoreman with Local 329 and with Young and CO. He was a former member of Mt . Zion Church in Willis, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Steve Sanders, Jr., and his seven siblings. He leaves to cherish memories, his wife, Hazel Sanders of Galveston; sons, Michael L. Sanders (Linda), Ellis Payton (Erika); daughters, Jackie Simmons (Clifford), Norma Meyers (Philip), Gloria August, Eula Crews (Eddie) and Pearl Mosby (James); host of grandchildren, great and great -great grandchildren; devoted friend, B. T. Joseph, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
