The daughter of King Frederik I of Denmark, and therefore a Danish princess, she was also known as Dorothea von Brandenburg-Ansbach, Dorothea von Hohenzollern, and, by virtue of her marriage to Duke Albrecht of Prussia (Preussen) in 1526, the Duchess of Prussia. Her husband was the last Grandmaster of the Teutonic Knights in Prussia, which organization he secularized. He became thereby the first Duke of Prussia and made Prussia Lutheran. The couple had six children; only the first child, daughter Anna Sophie, survived childhood. Dorothea was known for her charity and her furthering of the Lutheran faith. The tomb pictured at right was destroyed in WWII. Click on the photos for credits.
(Dorothea was born in Schloss [Castle] Gottorf in Schleswig and died in Königsberg, Prussia [now Kalinengrad, Russia].)
