Charles A. Bame attended Ohio Northern and Manchester Colleges. He taught school for 7 years at Williamstown, Ohio. He was then elected to the ministry by the Eagle Creek Church of the Brethren. He served a Dayton, Ohio Church of the Brethren 1902-04; Church of the Brethren, Philadelphia, Pa. 1908-10; The First Brethren Church, Dayton, Oh. 1910-14 where a new church was built in 1912; N. Manchester, Ind. First Brethren 1916-21; College Pastor, Ashland, Oh. 1923-35; First Brethren, South Bend, Ind. 1939-43; College Corner Church (near Wabash, Ind.) 1945-50.
He served as Sunday School Literature Editor at the Asland Publishing House of the Brethren Church 1930-35, and traveled for the Brethren Bi-Centenary Movement 1923-1930.
Charles was a writer of many articles for denominational publications; poetry and songs were written in "spare time!" He was a popular speaker and orator. He did evangelistic work, and often spoke for the Prohibition Movement. He was nominated for Governor of Ohio in 1932 by the Prohibition Party. He continued to preach and filled his pulpit the Sunday before he died.
