Sara Ellen Mapel Patterson, 95, of Maplewood Community in Bridgeport, died Saturday, August 8, 2009, at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
She was brn June1, 1914, in Waynesburg, PA, the daughter of the late A. Ray and Lida Frye Mapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Marcus Patterson.
She retired with 30 years of service as an elementary school teacher. She taught school in the Alton School District and in Marion County, West Virginia. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Las Cruces, New Mexico.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Patterson and his wife, Mari, of Grafton, West Virginia, and Mark Patterson and his wife, Gemey, of Wenatchee, Washington; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon and Billy Mapel; and two sisters, Virginia Mapel and Betty Maple Havlichek.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at Ford Funeral Home, 215 East Main Street in Bridgeport, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Clarksburg Mission, 600 East Pike Street, Clarksburg, West Virginia 26301 or the Salvation Army, 1010 South Chestnut Street, Clarksburg, West Virginia 26301.
