Gertie Irene Doggett Bird, daughter of Starkley Walter and Ollie A. Howard Doggett was born in Republic County on May 5, 1907 and died at the Republic County hospital, Belleville, May 6, 1977 at the age of 70 years and one day.

She received her education at the Willowdale school. She was united in marriage to Marion Etter on October 17, 1931, they had one daughter, Evelyn. She was united in marriage to Elvin W. Bird on December 19, 1967. She moved to Belleville in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one step-son, Dannie Bird, killed in Vietnam, January 14, 1969.

Survivors are: her husband, Elvin W. of the home, one daughter, Mrs. John Evelyn Woolley of Littleton, Colo., one step-son, Bryce Bird of Portland, Ore., five step-daughters, Mrs. Tom Penry of Acampo, Calif., Mrs. Dwayne Jinsen of Emerson, Ia., Mrs. Gary Moyer of Nebraska City, Nebr., Mrs. Marvin Wagner of Mankato: one brother, Grant Doggett of Belleville: two sisters, Mrs. William F. Hadachek of Belleville, Mrs. LeRoy Oberhelman of Hastings, Nebr.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 21 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 9, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Memorial Chapel of Belleville, conducted by Rev. Loren Silsby.

Interment was made in Belleville cemetery.
