Born in Freetown, the daughter of the late Jonathan R. and Gertrude E. (Rounsville) Gurney, she was a 1926 graduate of New Bedford Vocational School and was one of the oldest members of the East Freetown Christian Congregational Church.
Mrs. Staples was employed for a few years at the former Sassaquin Sanatorium and for many years at Apponequet High School in the cafeteria before retiring in 1977.
She was a member of the Golden Seniors and Friendly Seniors, both in Lakeville. She also was a member of the Housewives Bowling League. Her hobbies were flower gardening, bowling and traveling.
Donations in her memory to East Freetown Christian Congregational Church. Her funeral service will be at 11 am on Wednesday in the Egger Funeral Home, 61 Pearl Street, Middleboro. Burial to follow in Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro.
