NEW SITE – James R."Pete" Pounds, 66, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, after an extended illness. He was born July 3, 1947, in Prentiss County to Randal and Estelle Pounds. He was a native of Prentiss County. He attended and was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. He was a farmer all of his life. He was owner and operator of Baldwyn Grain. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Chapel of Kesler Funeral Home in Baldwyn with the Rev. Ricky Green and the Rev. Carl Dunlap officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in the New Site community.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mae Pounds; son, Bradley Pounds (Jessie) of New Site; one daughter, Sonya Tucker (JR) of Marietta; three grandchildren, Dalton Pounds, Dallas Pounds and Preston Denton; one sister, Janice Smith; four brothers, Larry Pounds, Randy Pounds, Michael Pounds and Bobby Pounds, all of New Site; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Waylon Smith; and one niece, Lee Ann Pounds.

Pallbearers will be Jr. Tucker, Jeff Dill, Devin Dill, Noel Franks, Ben Franks and Shannon Pounds. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present truck drivers.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. and from noon until service time Saturday.
