Late Tuesday afternoon this village was shocked to hear of the sudden death of one of its most popular and highly respected citizens Oscar E. Preston.
Mr. Preston was about town Tuesday morning apparently in good health but upon returning to his home his daughter, Mrs. H.E. Mead, with whom he has resided with since the death of his wife 11 years ago, he complained of a pain near the heart and died within an hour.
Mr. Preston was born in New Ipswich, N.H. eighty years ago and came to this town when a young man after serving in the Civil war. Later he married Mary Fuller of this village. About ten years ago he retired from the milk business, In which he had been engaged the greater part of his life. As one of the surviving members of the G.A.R. he represented the local post in the recent parade in Boston.
His kind words and cordial handshake will be missed by all with whom he came in-contact.
Two daughters survive him: Mrs. Alberta Mead of West Acton and Mrs. Viola Anderson of Nashua, N.H.
A public funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter on Windsor Ave. (Published in Concord Enterprise, Oct. 15, 1924)
