One of God's mighty warriors was called home Tuesday, July 2, 2014. Surrounded by his loving family, Jerry quietly ascended to the heavens. Jerry Abernathy was born in Russellville, Alabama, on May 27, 1945 to the late Hudie Guy and Lassie Mae Abernathy.
After receiving his high school education from Leighton Training School. Jerry chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army and as a testimony of Honest and Faithful Service was Honorably Discharged from the Armed Forces. His accommodation's included National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Jerry also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1965-1995. After his military service, he attended Muscle Shoals Technical School and successfully received his formal training. Due to a sudden illness and after many years of loyal service he retired from Quad-Cities Electric Motor, Inc., Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Jerry loved his family and always cared for and helped them in any way that he could. The most important roles to him were those as husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. His devoted wife, Renita, precious daughter, Alicia were the best parts of his life. The love they shared is like no other. Jerry enjoyed the gathering of his family on any occasion but he especially loved the family reunions. It bought him much pleasure to see his family together.
Jerry was predeceased in death by seven siblings: Annie Louise, Lillian, Cleo, Willie ‘Teet', Homer ‘Neut', Arrie ‘Dobb', and Ella
Left to cherish his precious memory is his loving wife, Renita; two daughters, Latoshia and Alicia, one son, Ethan Bates who he raised as his own; one granddaughter Lori, two sisters Suzie Abernathy and Bobbie ‘Turie' Abernathy; two brothers, Price ‘Billy' Abernathy, Royce (Sheila) Abernathy; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
