Nancy found the love of her life in her husband of 30 years, Eric. Before retirement, she was the Polk County (Oregon) Courthouse Personnel Director. As active RVers, they began escaping the Oregon winters to Yuma over 20 years ago. They quickly fell in love with the community and began spending more and more time here, eventually becoming year round residents. Nancy and Eric's Foothills home was a central hub for friends to meet and socialize.
Nancy was a talented artist who shared her love of painting with the people of Yuma by founding the Mountain Shadows Artists Association in 1996. She volunteered regularly with Foothills Friends of the Library. A deeply spiritual women, she had a positive outlook on life. Many will remember Nancy for her beautiful paintings. Others will remember her for her volunteer work. And, some, for the jokes she tried to tell, but could not finish because she started laughing so hard. All who have met Nancy will remember her big smile and her compassion for people.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Eric; sons, Greg Bryant of Seward, Alaska, Chuck and Steve Hinson, both of Yuma; brother, Art Gregory of Newberg, Oregon; sister, Peggy Gosson of Sutherlin, Oregon; six step children, Cynthia Carlson, Janet Moore, Marcella Rush, Philip Carlson, Charlotte Woodward and Steven Carlson; 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Nancy looked forward to being reunited with her daughter Kim Nida, who tragically died young.
A memorial service will be held at the Foothills Assembly of God Church on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a brief gathering at the church following the memorial. A memorial will be scheduled for a later date in Oregon.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in Nancy's name to Crossroads Mission, 944 Arizona Ave., Yuma, AZ 85365 or the Nancy K. Carlson Memorial Scholarship fund at the Mountain Shadows Artists Association, PO Box 25023, Yuma, AZ 85367.
